2006 Canadian National Championships
*A new cross country gallery is now in Photography section of website
- races are in chronological order - sprint photos and March 12 classic races are at the end of article
The Lappe Nordic Centre is the proud host of the 2006 Canadian National Championships from March 5-12. Thunder Bay, Ontario is the ideal location for the races to determine the national champions in cross country skiing. It is the home of the Thunder Bay National Team Development Centre which had three former members - Chris Jeffries, Dan Roycroft, and Sean Crooks - compete in the 2006 Winter Olympics. The Development Centre has the luxury of being able to train at two excellent Thunder Bay facilities: the Lappe Nordic Centre and the Kamview Nordic Centre.
Images from the Canmore World Cup in December of 2006 can be seen in the article "Canmore World Cup" on this site and cross country images (primarily of former Thunder Bay NTDC members) from the last few years can be found in the Photography section.
March 5 - RELAYS
Men's Relay
Open Women
Day 2
Classic Races
Classic photos were not very good. If photography was a competitive sport, I would have come in last today.
DAY 3
Skate Races
Temperatures hovering around freezing on a grey day.
Women's 10 km
Men's 15 km skate
A man makes a 10 metre sprint just ahead of the approaching men in the 15 km Senior Men skate. The telephoto lens makes it seem he is closer to the skiers than he actually is.
Junior Men's skate race
SPRINT RACES
Everyoneone has heard about the conditions, so images are worth more than than more words.
