How wonderful to see pictures of people I remember from Saganaga Lake.Being a Customs Officer there on and off for 16 years I became family, and we finally moved into our own cabin in Sitches Island. Thanks for the memories

Your old pal from Snow Lake, MB, winner with you in 1000 metres doubles men's canoe race in 1976 NORMAN regional Summer Games. I do still a lot of recreation canoeing, but no racing, during the summer holidays. I am looking for a good 18' - 20' canoe, which is capable to carry more cargo, without having to stop for supplies. I took four trips from Rocky Mountain to PA (2) and as far as Moose Lake MB (2).

In any event, I am close to completing my Masters of Education degree (part-time)and hope to complete and graduate in the fall of 2012. I started my graduate studies in the fall of 1987 at U of SK, again registerd in 1997 and 2007, but transferred to U of Regina due to its residency requirements, meaning I do not have to take a leave of absence from work for one year, but have to study during the summer and on week-ends during the school year.

In a closing note, Pauline and me seperated 1998, and will be divorced as soon as the the papers are signed forthwith. However, I am still friends with my brother-in-law, Solomon Carriere, and I am positive you will give our good friend Milt Pedwell my e-mail address

Keep in touch.

Mr. Nelson - It has taken my husband and I twenty years to find the name of his grandmother - We found it last year. Her name was Esther Marie Powell - it took me another year to find some thing about her and her family and I found it this evening in this wonderful article you have written about the Powell family. My husband remembers his grandmother as "a lovley lady" but has not had any contact with that side of the family since he was 5 years old. Thank you so much.

I am so very proud that Quetico has recognize this precious woman who we love and adore in Sharbot Lake. Shirley has been the driving force to gather local history, stories from our seniors and artifacts that would have been lost if not for her. Sharbot Lake has been her home and we shared her with the Park and experinced all the same dedication and effort at home as you did at work. We love her very much!!

She is very deserving of this high honour of the Order of Ontario, truly a giving humble "great" woman.
Frances Smith,
Councillor for Central Frontenac Township and life long friend.
